HCC looks into athletic program; TSU releases coach
The Houston Community College System board of trustees will consider adding a student fee that would enable the system to fund an intramural athletic program, with the possibilty of elevating that into an intercollegiate program.
The HCCS board will vote on the measure in a meeting at 3 p.m. Tuesday at 3100 Main St. If the fee is approved, students would be charged an extra $6 per semester, effective in spring of 2009, to fund an intramural program, which would start this fall.
HCCS chancellor Mary Spangler estimates that the fee would generate an additional $250,000 per semester, money that would split among five of the system’s campuses: Central, Northeast, Northwest, Southeast and Southwest.
I’ll have more details after the board reaches its decision. Until then, does anyone care to weigh in with some thoughts?
